CALI's Heritage Wide-Plank Line

Legends is one of CALI's premium wide-plank vinyl lines, a peer to Longboards with the same 20 mil wear layer but a different build and a different design language. Where Longboards takes its identity from surf locations and runs a calmer, more even-toned palette, Legends leans into surf and coastal imagery - first light on the water, weathered driftwood, sun-bleached sand, the conditions and moments of a day spent near the ocean. The colors themselves carry more chromatic depth and more character to match.

The build is genuinely premium. Legends ships with a 20 mil wear layer, a 100% waterproof WPC rigid core at 12mm overall, attached Mute Step underlayment, and a 9-inch by 60-inch plank format that reads wide and current in a room. The thicker WPC core gives it a softer, quieter feel underfoot than a thinner SPC floor. The warranty is Lifetime Limited Residential, 15-Year Limited Commercial.

The collection covers twelve colors across the coastal-Pacific spectrum, from pale weathered blondes and soft tans to deep honey oaks, warm browns, and a warm-undertoned gray. Below is each color in turn, with an honest look at what it actually looks like in a real room and where it fits in a home.

White/Off-White · CALI Vinyl Legends · 20 mil · 9″ × 60″

Saltwater Oak

Bright, airy, modern-coastal

CALI Vinyl Legends Saltwater Oak - pale off-white wide-plank vinyl in an airy modern room

Saltwater Oak is the lightest color in the Legends collection - a pale, off-white oak with the soft, weathered character of driftwood pulled from the tide. It captures the sun-and-salt-bleached quality of wood left out on a Pacific beach, and it brings real airiness to a room without going stark or clinical.

The discipline with a floor this pale is making sure everything around it has enough warmth to balance the lightness. Saltwater Oak wants natural fiber rugs, oak or walnut furniture, soft cream and dove-gray upholstery - not bright white walls and chrome. Done right, a Saltwater Oak room feels luminous and grounded. Done with the wrong supporting palette, it can feel sterile. The floor itself is excellent; the room around it has to earn it.

Best For

Modern, airy interiors where the floor needs to recede so light and architecture can do the work. Saltwater Oak fits Scandinavian-leaning rooms, modern coastal homes, and any space designed around natural light and open volume.

Gray · CALI Vinyl Legends · 20 mil · 9″ × 60″

Uprush

Warm-gray, weathered coastal

CALI Vinyl Legends Uprush - weathered warm-gray wide-plank vinyl in a coastal-modern living room

Uprush takes its name from the wash of water that rushes up the beach after a wave breaks, and the color reads exactly like that final layer of foam - a soft, weathered gray with real warm undertones running through it. This is not the cool, blue-gray that defined the 2010s flooring trend. Uprush is what came after that - gray with brown in it, gray with the sun on it, gray that feels lived-in.

Uprush is one of the most distinctive floors in the Legends lineup, and it is the color most likely to anchor a real design moment. The warm undertones mean it pairs with cream and oatmeal rather than fighting them, which opens up a much wider furniture palette than a cool-gray floor would allow. It is particularly strong in coastal-modern interiors where you want the moody, weathered quality of a Pacific Northwest beach house without the floor going outright dark.

Best For

Coastal homes and modern-coastal interiors that want a gray floor that does not feel cold. Uprush is the right call for rooms that lean into salt-and-fog Pacific colors - soft blues, warm whites, weathered wood furniture, brushed nickel rather than chrome.

Tan · CALI Vinyl Legends · 20 mil · 9″ × 60″

Dawn Patrol

Versatile neutral, whole-home

CALI Vinyl Legends Dawn Patrol - soft tan wide-plank vinyl in a calm, light-filled living room

Dawn Patrol is named after the surfers' early-morning ritual of paddling out before sunrise, and the color carries that quiet, first-light quality - a soft tan oak with just enough warmth to feel grounded and just enough lightness to keep rooms feeling open. This is the Legends color most likely to land on a designer's mood board as a default starting point.

Dawn Patrol is the floor for people who want the Legends construction tier but do not want the floor to make the strongest statement in the room. It works with painted-white trim, light-oak cabinetry, walnut accents, and basically any wall color that is not actively fighting it. The grain pattern is calmer than the more grained colors, which makes it especially good for larger open-plan spaces where a busier floor would feel restless.

Best For

Whole-home installs where the floor needs to work in every room - living, kitchen, bedrooms, hallways. Dawn Patrol is the safest pick in the Legends lineup for buyers who want a confident neutral that does not lock the rest of the home into one design direction.

Blonde · CALI Vinyl Legends · 20 mil · 9″ × 60″

Laguna Sand

Coastal-modern, open-plan light

CALI Vinyl Legends Laguna Sand - warm blonde wide-plank vinyl in a coastal-modern living room

Laguna Sand pulls its name from the Southern California break, and the color reads exactly the way you would expect - a warm, sun-bleached blonde with the soft variation of wet sand at the tide line. It is one of the lighter colors in the Legends palette but it carries enough warmth that it never reads as washed-out or sterile.

The trick with a blonde floor of this character is that it has to be warm-blonde, not cool-blonde - and Laguna Sand lands firmly on the warm side. It pairs with white-and-natural-wood kitchens, oatmeal upholstery, woven-rope and rattan accents, and the kind of soft, layered neutrals that define a current coastal interior. Wider planks of this length read as more current than the narrow blonde oak strip floors that dominated coastal homes a decade ago.

Best For

Open-plan homes that want a coastal-modern feel without going stark white. Laguna Sand is the floor for primary residences and second homes in beach communities where the design language leans relaxed and the light needs room to bounce.

South Wind Oak

Warm blonde, relaxed transitional

CALI Vinyl Legends South Wind Oak - warm blonde wide-plank vinyl with subtle grain in a relaxed living room

South Wind Oak is a warm blonde with more visible grain than Laguna Sand and slightly more chromatic warmth than Dawn Patrol. It sits in the sweet spot between the very-pale and the mid-tone colors, which makes it one of the most flexible options across design styles.

The character in South Wind Oak comes from the grain. The grain runs long and varied across each plank, with visible tonal shifts that give the floor real movement underfoot. It pairs naturally with shaker cabinetry, off-white walls, and the kind of textural, relaxed interior that defines current transitional design - cane chairs, linen drapery, hand-thrown ceramics. A more current take on a classic blonde floor.

Best For

Transitional homes and modern farmhouses that want a blonde floor with a touch more character than the ultra-pale options. South Wind Oak works in living rooms, kitchens, and bedrooms where the design leans relaxed and the floor needs to read as real wood, not a backdrop.

Blonde · CALI Vinyl Legends · 20 mil · 9″ × 60″

Driftwood Shore

Weathered blonde, coastal-modern

CALI Vinyl Legends Driftwood Shore - weathered blonde wide-plank vinyl in a coastal-modern living room

Driftwood Shore is exactly what the name suggests - a weathered, sun-and-salt-aged blonde oak with the soft, washed-out quality of wood that has spent time on a beach. It sits slightly cooler than Laguna Sand and slightly warmer than Saltwater Oak, which gives it a versatility most weathered-blonde floors do not have.

Driftwood Shore is the floor that lets the rest of a coastal interior breathe. It pairs with whitewashed wood furniture, woven rope and rattan, soft blue and gray-green textiles, and the kind of layered, sea-glass color palette that defines a modern beach house. The weathered character also makes it forgiving on use - light scratches, sand tracked in from outside, real-life beach-house wear all blend into the existing visual texture rather than reading as damage.

Best For

Beach houses, second homes, and coastal-modern primary residences where the floor needs to look like it has lived through some weather. Driftwood Shore is the right call for any interior built around a relaxed, salt-air design language.

Hidden Palm

Natural blonde, modern-organic

CALI Vinyl Legends Hidden Palm - soft natural blonde wide-plank vinyl in a relaxed modern living room

Hidden Palm is a soft, natural blonde with a quiet, balanced grain pattern. The color sits in the modern-organic sweet spot, which is where a lot of current design is heading.

Hidden Palm pairs with the kind of pared-back, considered materials that define modern-organic interiors - unbleached linen, raw oak, hand-thrown stoneware, soft cream and bone walls, dark accents in iron or blackened steel. It also works in Japandi-leaning spaces where the floor needs to be a calm, even backdrop for the rest of the room to do its work. The 9"-wide format reads contemporary rather than traditional, which is the right call for the design language this color belongs in.

Best For

Modern-organic and Japandi-leaning interiors that want a natural-blonde floor with subtle character. Hidden Palm is the floor for rooms built around quiet textures, natural materials, and a calm, intentional palette.

Honey · CALI Vinyl Legends · 20 mil · 9″ × 60″

Catamaran

Rich honey, contemporary warmth

CALI Vinyl Legends Catamaran - rich honey wide-plank vinyl in a warm contemporary room

Catamaran is one of the deeper honey colors in the Legends palette, with enough chromatic depth to read as a clear design choice. The grain pattern carries visible grain across the long planks, which gives the floor real material substance.

This is the Legends color for buyers who want warmth as the dominant note in the room. Catamaran pairs especially well with off-white millwork, brushed brass, woven natural-fiber rugs, and the kind of furniture that gets better with age - leather chesterfields, walnut credenzas, hand-loomed wool. The richness of the color means the rest of the room can stay relatively neutral and still feel composed.

Best For

Contemporary and transitional homes that want a floor with real chromatic warmth without going into orange or red territory. Catamaran is the floor for rooms designed around layered, saturated neutrals - caramel leather, walnut furniture, deep cream walls.

Honey · CALI Vinyl Legends · 20 mil · 9″ × 60″

Calypso Cove

Honey warmth, traditional-leaning

CALI Vinyl Legends Calypso Cove - warm honey wide-plank vinyl in a sunlit living room

Calypso Cove is a classic honey oak interpreted at the Legends spec tier - a warm, golden-amber floor with visible grain and the kind of saturated character that defines an authentically traditional interior. It is the closest the collection gets to the honey-oak floors of the original Craftsman bungalows, scaled up to the modern 9"-wide format.

Calypso Cove pairs naturally with unpainted oak millwork, Mission and Stickley-inspired furniture, leaded glass, brass and bronze fixtures, and the saturated jewel-toned textiles that define warm traditional interiors. It also works in more current transitional spaces that want a floor with real warmth - caramel leather, walnut accents, deep cream walls. The honey character is its strongest design move, so the rest of the room should lean into it rather than fight it.

Best For

Traditional, Craftsman-revival, and warm-transitional homes that want a clear honey-oak floor with real chromatic depth. Calypso Cove fits any interior where warm wood is the foundation rather than the accent.

Shop Calypso Cove →

Warm Brown · CALI Vinyl Legends · 20 mil · 9″ × 60″

Outrigger Oak

Warm, layered family rooms

CALI Vinyl Legends Outrigger Oak - warm brown wide-plank vinyl in a living room setting

Outrigger Oak is the warm, mid-brown anchor of the Legends palette - a saturated oak that lands somewhere between honey and chestnut, with enough chromatic depth to hold a room together rather than blend into it. The name nods to the outrigger canoes that have been part of Pacific surf culture for centuries, and the color carries that same weathered, sun-warmed quality.

What makes Outrigger Oak work where a flat mid-brown would not is the way the grain moves through it. The grain runs long and varied across the 60" planks, with subtle tonal shifts from board to board that read as real wood rather than printed pattern. It plays especially well with painted-white millwork, off-white walls, and the kind of relaxed traditional furniture that does not want to compete with the floor underneath it.

Best For

Family rooms, dens, and great rooms that want a settled, lived-in warmth. Outrigger Oak pairs with leather, wool textures, and warm metals - brass, bronze, oil-rubbed bronze - without ever feeling forced.

Shop Outrigger Oak →

Brown · CALI Vinyl Legends · 20 mil · 9″ × 60″

Golden Hour Oak

South-facing rooms, warm light

CALI Vinyl Legends Golden Hour Oak - amber-warm wide-plank vinyl in a sunlit living room

Golden Hour Oak is named after the soft, amber light that surfers chase at the end of the day, and the floor reads exactly like that - a warm honey-amber oak that glows under natural light without ever going orange. It is the most chromatic of the warm Legends colors, and it makes a clear, confident design statement.

This is the floor for homes that want warmth as a deliberate choice, not a fallback. Golden Hour Oak pairs with cream walls and unpainted oak built-ins for a Craftsman-leaning take, or with crisp white, brass, and natural linen for a more transitional read. The one place it does not belong is a north-facing room with cool light - the chromatic warmth needs sunlight to read correctly, and in flat northern light it can feel a touch heavy.

Best For

South- and west-facing rooms where the floor will catch real afternoon light. Golden Hour Oak takes warm light and amplifies it - kitchens, sunrooms, and great rooms with big windows are the natural fit.

Shop Golden Hour Oak →

Brown · CALI Vinyl Legends · 20 mil · 9″ × 60″

Oyster Isle

Greige-brown, broadly versatile

CALI Vinyl Legends Oyster Isle - soft greige-brown wide-plank vinyl in a calm transitional room

Oyster Isle is the most chameleonic color in the Legends collection - a soft greige-brown that shifts subtly between warm and cool depending on the light around it. In morning light it reads warmer, almost tan. In evening light it reads cooler, closer to a soft gray-brown. That adaptability is the whole appeal.

Oyster Isle works in homes that have not yet committed to a strict design direction, and in renovation projects where the floor has to flow across rooms with very different natural light. It pairs cleanly with painted-white cabinetry, warm-gray walls, oak furniture, and almost any rug palette short of pure saturated color. The grain pattern is calm enough that the floor never competes for attention, which is exactly the right call for a versatile neutral.

Best For

Whole-home installs and broad-renovation projects where the floor needs to land in the middle of the color spectrum and stay neutral across multiple rooms with different light conditions. Oyster Isle is the safe pick for buyers who are not sure which direction the rest of the design will go.

CALI Legends FAQ

The questions buyers ask when comparing the Legends collection to the rest of the CALI catalog.

Is the CALI Legends collection worth it?

Yes, if you want a premium wide-and-long plank with a thick, cushioned WPC core and a more characterful color palette than the standard CALI lineup. Legends ships with a 20 mil wear layer, a 100% waterproof WPC rigid core at 12mm overall, attached Mute Step underlayment, 9"-wide planks at 60" long, and a Lifetime Limited Residential warranty. It is a heavy-residential spec built for primary residences, design-led renovations, and buyers who want the thicker, quieter feel of a WPC floor underfoot.

What is the difference between CALI Legends and Longboards?

Both are premium CALI vinyl lines with a 20 mil wear layer, attached underlayment, a lifetime residential warranty, and oversized planks, but they are built differently. Longboards uses an SPC rigid core in a 9" by 70-7/8" plank; Legends uses a thicker, more cushioned WPC core in a 9" by 60" plank, so it feels a little softer and quieter underfoot. The other difference is design language. Longboards is named after surf locations (Mavericks, Trestles, Seaboard) and runs a slightly more even-toned, balanced color palette. Legends draws its color names from surf and coastal imagery, and runs a richer, more saturated, more characterful palette - deeper honey oaks, more chromatic warmth, more visible grain. Pick Longboards for a calmer floor and the longest plank; pick Legends for the WPC underfoot feel and more design weight.

Is CALI Legends waterproof?

Yes. The entire Legends collection is built on a 100% waterproof WPC (wood-polymer composite) rigid core, which means the floor itself cannot absorb moisture from spills, pet accidents, kitchen cooking, or basement humidity. Waterproofing comes from the core construction, not a surface treatment, so it does not degrade with wear. Legends is rated for installation in any room of a home - kitchens, bathrooms, basements, mudrooms, laundry rooms - without restriction.

What is the wear layer on the Legends collection?

Legends carries a 20 mil wear layer, a heavy-residential rating well above the entry tier. For context: a 6 mil wear layer is entry-level, 12 mil is light residential use, and 20 mil is heavy residential, thick enough to handle decades of family use, pets, and high-traffic rooms without showing wear-layer breakdown. It is the same wear-layer thickness CALI puts on Longboards.

How wide and long are the planks in the Legends collection?

Legends planks measure 9" wide by 60" long - one of the largest plank formats in CALI's entire catalog. Wider, longer planks read more current than the narrow, short planks that dominated vinyl flooring a decade ago, and they install with fewer end-joints across a room, which gives the finished floor a cleaner, more refined visual. The format is particularly well-suited to large open-plan spaces, where standard-size planks can read busy.

Who are the Legends in the CALI Legends collection?

The color names draw on West Coast and Pacific surf and coastal culture rather than on specific people. Some are literal surf and beach terms (Dawn Patrol - the surfers' ritual of paddling out before sunrise; Uprush - the wash of water that runs up the beach after a wave breaks; Outrigger Oak - the outrigger canoes long used in Pacific paddling culture). Others reference familiar breaks, coastal places, and conditions. CALI built the collection around that surf-and-coastal heritage, with each color carrying a piece of it in the name.

Can I install Legends over radiant heat?

Yes. The Legends collection is approved for installation over radiant heat systems, provided the floor surface temperature does not exceed CALI's published maximum (typically around 85 degrees Fahrenheit for rigid-core vinyl). The attached Mute Step underlayment also adds a small amount of thermal insulation, which can affect heating efficiency - most homeowners and installers find the trade-off acceptable for the underfoot comfort and acoustic benefit the pad provides.

What warranty comes with the Legends collection?

Legends carries a Lifetime Limited Residential warranty and a 15-Year Limited Commercial warranty. For residential use, that covers the wear layer, the core integrity, and the finish under normal home conditions for the lifetime of the original purchaser at the original installation address. As with any flooring warranty, the fine print matters - the floor has to be installed per manufacturer guidelines, maintained per the published care instructions, and the warranty does not cover damage from extreme misuse. For real homes installed correctly, the Lifetime designation is meaningful.

Which Legends color is the most versatile?

Dawn Patrol and Oyster Isle are the two most versatile colors. Dawn Patrol is a soft tan with calm grain that works in basically any room and any design direction - it is the safest pick for buyers who do not want the floor to lock in the rest of the home's design. Oyster Isle is a greige-brown that shifts subtly between warm and cool depending on light, which makes it especially good for whole-home installs across rooms with different natural light conditions. Either one will land cleanly in a wide range of interiors.
