A Surf Break, A Color Story
Lower Trestles sits a short hike south of San Clemente, at the mouth of a creek where the Camp Pendleton fence line meets the Pacific. The wave there is a long, mechanical right-hand break, the kind of wave that has produced more world-tour champions than almost any other spot in California, and the kind of spot that has shaped Southern California surf culture for half a century. Upper Trestles and Cottons round out the cluster; the whole stretch of coast still carries the patinated, weathered, sun-warmed look of a beach that has been loved hard for a long time.
That place is the design brief for this floor. The color palette across the Trestles collection reads like a walk down the bluff trail to the break: warm sand at the top of the tide line, sun-bleached driftwood pulled into the rocks, weathered pier pilings, the deeper brown of ironwood beams on an old lifeguard tower, and the cool morning gray of marine layer before the sun burns it off. None of these colors are accidents. The collection was built to capture a coast, not a trend.
The construction backs up the design language. Trestles is a 100 percent waterproof WPC (wood plastic composite) luxury vinyl with an attached cushioned underlayment, a 20 mil commercial-grade wear layer, and a Limited Lifetime Residential warranty. The cushioned WPC core is what separates Trestles from a denser SPC plank: it is softer underfoot, quieter to walk on, and noticeably more forgiving over imperfect subfloors during install. The matte aluminum-oxide finish keeps the wood look grounded in real wood rather than glossy plastic.
The decision, then, is the color. Below is every active floor in the line: thirteen colors, organized loosely from the warm-tan center, out through the honeys, deeper into the browns, across the dark-brown anchor, and over to the lone gray. Each section covers what the color actually looks like in a real room, the styles it suits, and the cabinetry and walls that pair with it.
CALI Vinyl Trestles · Gray
Railway Gray
6.5 mm WPC plank · 20 mil wear layer · 100% waterproof core · Attached cushioned underlayment
Railway Gray is the sole gray in the Trestles line - and it is the right kind of gray. This is not the cold, blue-leaning gray-wash vinyl that dominated the 2010s; Railway Gray runs warm, with greige undertones and visible wood grain rather than the abstract texture of older gray vinyl. It is the gray you pick when you want the cooler half of the color wheel under your feet but still want the floor to read as wood, not as concrete.
Best For
Modern coastal and contemporary interiors that want a warm-leaning gray with real wood character.
Pairs Well With
Pairs with white and bone walls, soft sage and seafoam accents, polished nickel or brushed chrome, weathered-driftwood furniture, and the cooler-leaning coastal palette that wants a touch of restraint in its grays.
CALI Vinyl Trestles · Tan
Locals Only
6.5 mm WPC plank · 20 mil wear layer · 100% waterproof core · Attached cushioned underlayment
Locals Only is the warm-tan heart of the Trestles line - a sandy oak with golden undertones that captures the color of dry beach sand at the top of the tide line. The grain reads soft and natural, with enough grain to feel like real wood but never busy enough to fight the rest of a room. It is the color most Trestles buyers default to once they put a sample down next to white cabinetry and a window with real California light, because it does the job a great coastal floor is supposed to do: warm, quiet, unmistakably West Coast.
Best For
Sunlit coastal living rooms, open-plan kitchens, and beach houses that want warm sand without the orange shift older oak floors fall into.
Pairs Well With
Pairs cleanly with white shaker cabinetry, natural-linen upholstery, brass and antique-bronze fixtures, sage and seafoam accent walls, and the bright-coastal palette that defines current Southern California interiors.
CALI Vinyl Trestles · Tan
Timber Beach
6.5 mm WPC plank · 20 mil wear layer · 100% waterproof core · Attached cushioned underlayment
Timber Beach sits right next to Locals Only on the warm-tan side, but pulls a touch lighter and a touch drier - closer to sun-bleached driftwood than to wet beach sand. The grain is legible without being heavy, which lets the floor act as a quiet sand-toned backdrop rather than a pattern you have to design around. In rooms with strong southern light, it reads noticeably brighter than a Locals Only sample seen in the same conditions.
Best For
Bright coastal homes that want a slightly cleaner, drier tan with extra clarity in the grain.
Pairs Well With
Works under white-painted millwork, light-oak cabinetry, raw linen and natural-cotton upholstery, polished nickel or brushed-brass fixtures, and the airy summer-cottage palette that has replaced the cool-gray coastal look.
CALI Vinyl Trestles · Tan
Top Tie
6.5 mm WPC plank · 20 mil wear layer · 100% waterproof core · Attached cushioned underlayment
Top Tie is the everyday-house tan in the Trestles collection - a balanced, mid-warm oak that does not pull aggressively in any single direction. Where Locals Only leans sandy and Timber Beach leans bleached, Top Tie sits in the middle: warm enough to feel inviting in a cool-light north-facing room, restrained enough to not glow orange under afternoon sun. It is the most cabinetry-flexible color.
Best For
Transitional family homes and traditional interiors that want a versatile warm tan with character.
Pairs Well With
Pairs well with shaker cabinets in white, cream, or sage, warm-neutral walls, oil-rubbed bronze or matte black fixtures, and the layered transitional palette most American family homes are built around.
CALI Vinyl Trestles · Honey
Honey Beam
6.5 mm WPC plank · 20 mil wear layer · 100% waterproof core · Attached cushioned underlayment
Honey Beam is the warmest, most saturated color in the Trestles line - a deep, amber-leaning honey with the chromatic depth of stained oak and none of the flat orange of 1990s strip flooring. The graining carries enough variation plank to plank that the floor stays visually alive in big rooms, and the matte finish keeps the warmth grounded rather than glossy. For homeowners who have been waiting for honey oak to come back without coming back tacky, this is the right interpretation.
Best For
Craftsman and Mission-style homes, warmer transitional kitchens, and any space that wants real honey-oak warmth without going dated.
Pairs Well With
Pairs naturally with Craftsman-style trim, walnut and oak furniture, unpainted millwork, leaded-glass cabinet inserts, antique brass, and warm wall colors in the cream-to-clay range.
CALI Vinyl Trestles · Honey
Sunbaked Escape
6.5 mm WPC plank · 20 mil wear layer · 100% waterproof core · Attached cushioned underlayment
Sunbaked Escape lives in the honey family with Honey Beam, but reads brighter and lighter - closer to the color of summer wheat than to deep stained oak. The undertone is unmistakably golden, but the saturation stays restrained, which means the floor warms a room up without taking it over. In south-facing rooms with strong afternoon light, this is the color that produces the kind of warm, lived-in glow that defines a well-designed coastal home.
Best For
Sun-flooded kitchens, breakfast rooms, and bright coastal interiors that want golden warmth without going amber.
Pairs Well With
Works beautifully with white and warm-cream cabinetry, soft sage and olive walls, brass and unlacquered-brass fixtures, raw-linen and natural-cotton textiles, and a bright Southern California or Cape Cod palette.
CALI Vinyl Trestles · Honey
South Seas Oak
6.5 mm WPC plank · 20 mil wear layer · 100% waterproof core · Attached cushioned underlayment
South Seas Oak rounds out the honey end - a soft, hospitable warm-oak with golden saturation and finer, more restrained grain than Honey Beam. Where Honey Beam plays up the grain of stained oak, South Seas Oak plays it down, which gives the floor a quieter, more refined character. In tropical-leaning or warm-traditional interiors, it acts as the perfect warm backdrop for darker furniture and rattan accents.
Best For
Warm coastal and tropical-leaning interiors that want a hospitable honey floor with quiet grain.
Pairs Well With
Pairs with white-and-warm-wood kitchens, rattan and woven-cane furniture, brass and aged-bronze fixtures, sage and ocean-blue walls, and the warm, layered palette that defines old-world coastal and tropical interiors.
CALI Vinyl Trestles · Brown
Pelican Post
6.5 mm WPC plank · 20 mil wear layer · 100% waterproof core · Attached cushioned underlayment
Pelican Post is the warm mid-brown in the Trestles collection, and built around the kind of saturated oak color that anchors a room without darkening it. The grain carries real plank-to-plank variation, with lighter strands running through a warmer brown base, which keeps the floor visually interesting under both bright daylight and warm evening light. It is one of the most universally-applicable colors.
Best For
Transitional living rooms and family homes that want a warm mid-brown floor with comfortable depth.
Pairs Well With
Pairs cleanly with cream and bone walls, navy or forest-green cabinetry, leather furniture, antique brass, and the layered palette that runs through farmhouse, transitional, and mountain-modern interiors.
CALI Vinyl Trestles · Brown
Huntington Hickory
6.5 mm WPC plank · 20 mil wear layer · 100% waterproof core · Attached cushioned underlayment
Huntington Hickory is the hickory-look entry in the Trestles line - a warm brown with the wider chromatic range and livelier grain that defines a real hickory plank. Where the oak-pattern colors stay relatively consistent plank to plank, Huntington Hickory varies meaningfully: warm tan strands, deeper chocolate streaks, and the kind of natural color contrast that gives hickory its distinctive personality. For homeowners who like their flooring with real visual character, this is the right pick.
Best For
Casual family homes and rustic-transitional interiors that want hickory character and lively grain.
Pairs Well With
Pairs with warm-white cabinetry, leather and distressed-oak furniture, oil-rubbed bronze and matte black fixtures, warm earth-tone walls, and the relaxed, lived-in palette that defines updated farmhouse and rustic-modern interiors.
CALI Vinyl Trestles · Brown
Dockwood
6.5 mm WPC plank · 20 mil wear layer · 100% waterproof core · Attached cushioned underlayment
Dockwood is the weathered-pier color - a brown that reads like reclaimed dock wood that has spent a decade in salt air and sun. The undertone is warm, but the surface treatment pushes the grain forward and softens the chromatic depth, which gives the floor a aged, lived-in quality from day one. It works particularly well in homes that already have weathered-wood furniture, because Dockwood sits in conversation with those pieces instead of competing with them.
Best For
Coastal homes and weathered-traditional interiors that want a brown with real saltwater patina.
Pairs Well With
Pairs with whitewashed shiplap, reclaimed-wood furniture, woven rope and jute textures, matte black or aged-bronze fixtures, and the salt-air coastal palette of New England, the Carolinas, and Pacific Northwest beach interiors.
CALI Vinyl Trestles · Brown
Weathered Ledge
6.5 mm WPC plank · 20 mil wear layer · 100% waterproof core · Attached cushioned underlayment
Weathered Ledge is the cooler-leaning brown - still firmly in warm-wood territory, but pulled a step toward the slate end of the spectrum compared with Dockwood or Pelican Post. The grain carries gray-brown undertones running through a warm-brown base, which gives the floor a weathered-stone-and-driftwood quality. In mountain homes, Pacific Northwest interiors, and any house that wants a brown floor that does not skew warm-orange, this is the color that solves the problem.
Best For
Mountain-modern and Pacific Northwest homes that want a deeper, slightly cooler weathered brown.
Pairs Well With
Works with charcoal and slate walls, deep evergreen and navy cabinetry, blackened steel and matte-black fixtures, leather furniture, and the cooler-leaning palette of mountain-modern and rugged-coastal interiors.
CALI Vinyl Trestles · Dark Brown
Saddlewood
6.5 mm WPC plank · 20 mil wear layer · 100% waterproof core · Attached cushioned underlayment
Saddlewood is the warm-dark-brown anchor of the Trestles line - a saturated, leather-leaning brown with the chromatic depth of stained walnut and the warmth of well-conditioned saddle leather. The graining carries enough golden undertone in the lighter strands to keep the overall floor reading warm rather than heavy, even at the saturation level of a true dark floor. It is the color for traditional interiors that want gravity without coldness.
Best For
Traditional and transitional rooms that want a saturated dark brown without losing warmth.
Pairs Well With
Pairs with cream and warm-white walls, painted-navy or painted-green cabinetry, brass and gold fixtures, traditional rug patterns, leather furniture, and the layered, warm palette that defines updated traditional and old-world transitional interiors.
CALI Vinyl Trestles · Dark Brown
Bridge Beam
6.5 mm WPC plank · 20 mil wear layer · 100% waterproof core · Attached cushioned underlayment
Bridge Beam is the darkest, most architectural color in the Trestles collection - a deep, near-walnut brown with the chromatic complexity that flat-dark vinyl never achieves. Lighter golden strands run through a deeply saturated brown base, which gives the floor its visual depth and keeps it from reading as a flat black plank under low light. In contemporary interiors and design-led traditional rooms, Bridge Beam carries the gravity of dark wood without sacrificing the warmth that keeps dark floors livable.
Best For
Statement rooms and contemporary interiors that want serious dark-wood chromatic depth.
Pairs Well With
Pairs with cream and warm-white walls, brass and gold fixtures, jewel-toned upholstery, painted-navy or painted-green cabinetry, and the considered, layered interiors that benefit from a dark grounding floor.
CALI Trestles FAQ
The questions homeowners ask when picking a Trestles floor.
What is the difference between WPC and SPC vinyl flooring?
WPC stands for wood plastic composite, and SPC stands for stone plastic composite. Both are 100 percent waterproof rigid-core luxury vinyl, but they have different cores. WPC, the construction used in Trestles, has a slightly thicker, softer, more cushioned core that includes a wood-fiber polymer, which means it feels noticeably warmer and quieter underfoot. SPC has a denser stone-and-polymer core, which makes it harder, more dent-resistant, and a touch more dimensionally stable in extreme temperature swings. The short version: WPC like Trestles wins on comfort and quiet, SPC wins on dent resistance and price. Both are waterproof, and both are appropriate for kitchens, bathrooms, and basements.
Why pick Trestles over a CALI SPC line?
Two reasons. First, comfort. The WPC core in Trestles, combined with the attached cushioned underlayment, makes the floor measurably softer and quieter to walk on than any SPC product, which matters in kitchens where you stand for an hour cooking, in playrooms where kids spend the afternoon, and in any room where a hollow vinyl tap would be obvious. Second, installation. The slightly forgiving WPC core handles imperfect subfloors better than thinner SPC, which makes Trestles a particularly strong DIY pick over older plywood, less-than-perfect concrete, or floors that need to install over existing tile.
Does CALI Trestles come with the underlayment already attached?
Yes. Every Trestles plank ships with an integrated cushioned underlayment bonded to the back of the board. That means no separate pad purchase, no rolling out and seaming an underlayment before install, and a meaningful underfoot comfort upgrade over pad-less vinyl. On concrete, you will still want to install over a moisture barrier in most cases, but the acoustic and comfort pad is already built into the plank.
How is Trestles installed?
Click-lock floating installation. Every plank in the Trestles line uses an angle-tap-lock joint system that snaps together without glue, nails, or fasteners, which is what makes the collection one of CALI's most DIY-friendly products. The floor floats over the subfloor with a small expansion gap around the perimeter, which means it can be installed over plywood, concrete, existing vinyl, or most tile without tearing up what is already there. Most renovating homeowners can complete a Trestles room in a weekend with basic tools.
Is CALI Trestles fully waterproof?
Yes. The WPC core is 100 percent waterproof, which means it will not swell, warp, or delaminate from water exposure. Trestles is rated for kitchens, bathrooms, mudrooms, basements, and any other moisture-prone room in the house. The waterproof rating is backed for the life of the residential install. It is worth noting that waterproof flooring is not the same as waterproof installation - you still want to address any standing-water source before installing - but the planks themselves are not affected by water.
What is the wear layer on Trestles?
20 mil. That is a commercial-grade wear layer, well above the 8-to-12 mil that defines mid-market luxury vinyl. The wear layer is the clear, durable top film that protects the printed wood-look layer underneath, and 20 mil is enough to handle pets, kids, rolling chairs, and heavy daily traffic for decades without scratching through to the design layer. It is also why CALI is comfortable backing the collection with a Limited Lifetime Residential warranty.
What is the warranty on CALI Trestles?
Limited Lifetime Residential. The warranty covers manufacturing defects, wear-through of the design layer, and waterproof performance for as long as the original purchaser owns the home where the floor was installed. That is among the strongest warranties available in residential vinyl, and it is supported by the 20 mil wear layer and 100 percent waterproof WPC core that drive the floor's day-to-day performance.
How thick is a Trestles plank?
6.5 mm of total plank thickness, including the attached cushioned underlayment. That is meaningfully thicker than budget click-lock vinyl, which typically runs 4 to 5 mm, and the extra thickness is what allows for the cushioned WPC core and integrated pad. The combined thickness also helps the floor feel substantial underfoot and bridge minor subfloor imperfections that a thinner plank would telegraph.
What is the best Trestles color for a sunny, south-facing coastal room?
Locals Only, Timber Beach, and Sunbaked Escape are the three colors that handle strong, warm afternoon light best. Locals Only gives you a warm sandy floor without shifting orange in direct sun, Timber Beach reads slightly cooler and drier and stays balanced even at peak brightness, and Sunbaked Escape leans golden and intentionally embraces the warm-glow effect that big sunlit rooms produce. For a north-facing coastal room with cooler light, Honey Beam and Pelican Post warm the space up most effectively.
